Fresh Start: My Guiding Principles for 2025
Now that I’m back, I’ve been reflecting on how I want to approach this year.
Instead of setting resolutions or picking a word of the year, I’m leaning into something simpler: guiding principles.
They’re inspired by moments that have brought me joy, connection, and clarity—moments I want more of this year - and will be a lens through which I make decisions this year.
Let me share them with you.
Childlike curiosity over comfort.
The highlight of my break was committing to an ocean swim every day. Honestly, it was heaven. I’d forgotten just how much I love the water and it brought back so many great memories of camping holidays when I was a kid.
It reminded me of how much joy comes from simply saying yes—to play, challenge, and spontaneity.
And it created an unexpected domino effect where I reconnected with past loves; I took an art class, went boogie boarding (yes, really) and picked blueberries.
This year, I want to follow that spark of childlike curiosity more often. Whether it’s trying something new, laughing so hard my cheeks hurt, or stepping out of my comfort zone, I’m saying yes to fun and adventure.
Phone down, head up (P.D.H.U)
While swimming, I spotted two stingrays gliding beneath me. I was struck by the wonder of it all and realised how easily I could have missed that magic if I’d been staring at a screen.
This year, I’m putting my phone down—literally and metaphorically.
No more scrolling out of habit or checking emails at every beep. I’ve started setting boundaries with my tech so I can focus on the world around me. Only a couple of weeks I’ve already noticed a HUGE impact and some very unexpected gains from P.D.H.U.
Ask anyway.
And finally, this year will see me in my ‘asking era.’
Too often, I’ve kept quiet about what I need or want, overthinking how others might respond. This year, I’m leaving that behind.
I’m committing to speaking up and asking for what matters—whether it’s support, opportunities, or connection. Life is too short to sit in silence.
What about you?
Are you setting goals, choosing a word, or doing something completely different this year?
I’d love to hear what’s inspiring you or how you’re approaching 2025.
Here’s to a year filled with childlike joy, connection and curiosity.
