My Dream Dinner Guests: Who would you Invite?
Have you heard that ice breaker style question before?
”If you could have a dream dinner party, with people alive or passed, who would be on the guest list?”
I was recently asked this and it actually took me on quite the emotional journey, mostly because it got me thinking about my mum who sadly passed in 2015.
Quite honestly, my dream dinner would be just me and my mum. If I had one more opportunity to physically be in the same room as her I could not give a flying hoot about any other person who was there. I never had the chance to meet my mum, as a mum, and I would give anything for that opportunity.
Buuuuuut let’s play the game shall we and see who else would get a seat at the table…
Adele (Entertainer) - the laffs and entertainment in one? Yes please! What a songstress, what a force and what a down-to-earth human being.
Rich Litvin (Coach) - this guy is one of the most amazing coaches I have ever come across! He gets the best from people, spurs the most interesting conversations and really makes you think differently. I’d love to have him there both for his personal contributions and to facilitate some of the convos (is that not the most ‘facilitator’ response ever?! Ha!)
Cherie Clonan (Aussie Founder, The Digital Picnic) - this woman is leading the way when it comes to servant leadership and I am *obsessed* with the way she does business! I would love to pick her brain on where she finds her inspiration, courage and ability to be so authentically herself.
Dr Abraham George (Humanitarian and Founder, Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project) - cue: jaw drop inspiration. Dr George has redefined non-profit education through his creation of a residential school exclusively for children born into India's lowest socioeconomic class (check out Daughters of Destiny on Netflix to see the workings of the project). Though his career is extremely diverse - served in the military as a youth and worked up to a senior business leader - he’s on a mission to alleviate poverty and bring about social justice and I’m so inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit and innovation he brings to this.
Jess Ulrich’s (Author & Poet) - I actually know very little about Jess but if her words are anything to go by, I think she’d bring a beautiful energy and perspective to dinner. She’s also from my hometown, New Zealand, and I am not at all blind to my biased belief that every Kiwi is a deadset legend. Jess is best known for her musings on motherhood and I was gifted her book From One Mom To A Mother after the birth of my daughter and devoured its pages. You’ll Always Be My Baby and My Resume are two of my faves.
Oprah (Media Mogul, Entrepreneur & Philanthropist ) - I know, I know, Oprah’s inclusion might feel like I’m lacking imagination but I’d be lying to myself if I didn’t have her at this table. I am in awe of the career and legacy Oprah has created for herself and her unwavering resilience when the odds were firmly stacked against the girl born into poverty, to a single teenage mum. The courage, creativity and tenacity she’s shown in owning her voice and reimagining daytime television makes my stomach flutter and also brings me back to my childhood (my mum was her biggest #fangirl, so this ones for her too).
Romesh Ranganathan (Comedian) - Romesh makes me cry with laughter. He is so quick, witty and relatable, he’d bring great banter and be the best person to have for any awky silences. Another Netflix watch for you is The Cynic (one ep is his stand-up show and the other is an interview with his mum, both are gold).
They say you are a reflection of the people you spend time with, so sign me up for this party stat!
Who would be on your guest list? Share away in the comments below - I’d love to know.
Big Love,
